We're excited to present an event that showcases stories of our trans community and the talented queer creators that bring these vital projects to life, in a uniquely historical queer environment.
Very often with a general LGBTQIA+ festival- trans stories are an "addition", but the New York Transgender Film Festival is all about US!
Trans filmmakers are fighting for limited screening spots- even in queer film festivals- and paying heavy entry fees.
But anyone who is creating trans+ projects knows how unattainable the established film festival circuit can be for our community. Keeping our stories from being seen, appreciated and rewarded.
NYTFF was created because we can no longer wait for OUR stories to be heard.
Our entry fees are $5 (for shorts) and $10 (for features), to give more filmmakers an opportunity to submit their projects.
And we're proud to note that our Selection Panel is made up entirely of trans+ artists, activists and filmmakers.
NYTFF is presented as part of the Trans Celebration Weekend (Sept 13-15), with a series of events that speak to the trans/non-binary experience. A weekend exclusively for our trans community to come together to celebrate queer writers, filmmakers and performers.
This amazing event will be held at the Cherry Grove Theater in Fire Island, which has national recognition as the longest running LGBTQ+ theater in the United States.
