We're thrilled to present an event that showcases stories of our trans community and the talented queer creators that bring these vital projects to life, in a uniquely historical queer environment.
A part of the 2023 weekend was the (unofficial) first NYTFF, featuring a curated selection of projects ranging from music videos to experimental film noir.
In 2024 the New York Transgender Film Festival officially opened for submissions and our Selection Jury was proud of the films that appeared in the festival lineup, but also of all the submissions we got to review…it reflected a vibrant and passionate community, and validated the need for this specialized event.
“Even within LGBTQ festivals, trans films get a tiny piece of space to present our stories,” NTYFF creator and director Parker Sargent said at the first year's screening, “and rarely are those stories created by and worked on by transgender and queer folks.”
In 2026 we hope to once again pack the historic Cherry Grove Theater, which is registered as the longest running LGBTQ theater in the United States, within a thriving queer community in one of the most gorgeous beach destinations in the world...with a selection of new trans+ projects.
We are excited to partner with The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (established in 1948), to provide a schedule of events that celebrate the NYTFF films and those that are creating important work that is representing the true heart and struggles of our transgender community. With their help, we are able to keep submission fees low and ask for a minimal ticket price at the event.
Films will screen Friday evening. Guest directors and performers will join a panel discussion on Saturday afternoon.
Awards are given for Best Feature and Best Short, selected by Selection Jury and attending audience. Presented on Saturday Sept 12th, 2026.
Cash awards of $100 will be secured by Sunday, Sept 13th, 2026.
This amazing event will be held at the Cherry Grove Theater in Fire Island, which has national recognition as the longest running LGBTQ+ theater in the United States...in partnership with the Arts Project of Cherry Grove.
We accept festival submissions through FilmFreeway.
